One True Master: Act 1: The New Beginning

First The Music - currently as free mp3 downloads.

.
"The New Beginning" The Beginning of the World. Oldest Creation Theory. Re-Birth of Mythological Archetypes. *
"Star For The Morning" We sort of fondly, stumble upon one another. Didn't we though. Somehow, out of the blinding light, she is born. *
"A Time And A Place" Everything always begins with Magic. Somethings are Eternal. The very first Time I ever laid eyes on You. Call it what you like. Say it isn't so. Be still True. *
"The Marionette's Song" Who is truly Free. What strings, you can only see from afar. Invisible to the eye. Bound to be. Still Be True. *
"The Cloud of Tears (Find the Time)" Sorry. Wouldn't you know, then all hell breaks loose in the raging Storm. I hate it when that happens. Even in the fantastical, there is this reality clawing it's way, still. Be True. Be Kind. *
"Too Bad, So Sad" Our would be heroes and heroines are left, shocked, somewhat in a mixed state of dismay, fear, despair, and bravely seeking survival in an unfamiliar territory. It is yet early; Perhaps before the Truth is further ensnared or revealed, perhaps Before the Dawn of Hope. *
"Lost On Larrabee" Intrumental. Think. Are you imprisoned, or are we locked out? Am I taken up, or are you afraid to see? Can I find You from Here. Whispered goodbyes. Silence in as yet Unspoken Promises. Hope yet to Dawn. Wonderment. *
All songs copyright K.O'Mara 1979-2011, unless otherwise noted. All rights reserved.

Then the tale begins.

It is dark, very dark, too dark. It shouldn't get this dark. Something must be wrong here. Where am I? Where are we? We... Who else is here?

A light. Soft, far away. Seems very far away, seems like it echoes in the distance. Can light echo? It is as candlelight in a huge overwhelming darkness. Still it is light. Something.

I try to reach toward the light but I feel as though I am held back. I am somehow restrained in my movements, almost as if I were in water or somehow slowed in each attempt. It is an odd sensation I had not expected.

At the same time, it is not a restraint on my movement, my movements are actually perhaps being controlled? I don't understand this feeling, but try to reach out toward the light.

Something moves in the darkness, in the distance.

Something dances in the vague far away light?

* * * * *

She says let's get right to the point. I know her. She is a touch impatient. She is right too, but sometimes... How do I answer her? Who is she? To ask?

I point.

I point to a fly. And a flower. A table, a bed, others standing about.

She thinks I am trying to be funny, and is not amused. I didn't really notice these things before, and I would like to dwell on it further, but there is no time in this one all critical moment.

Impatient. Perhaps it is only I, in my frustration to explain, and not her at all.

I point again. This time I point all around. I point to the sky, to the earth, to myself, to you.

What is this about then. Is that the question? MAYBE. I can tell you one thing. She thinks I am avoiding the question.

I point straight down with both hands, thinking. I point straight up, waving, wandering around, looking. I point at the question. OK.

As far as I know, and as best as I can tell, this is Life. This is about Life, and it is about the question. You are no small part of this either. As is She.

Much more to the point, this is my small re-telling of an original Creation Myth. Surely it is that, in part. Now forgive me, as I do not wish to offend, but let's be clear for this one moment, with Our Answer. Yes?

I point to Life.

(Lyrics) The New Beginning

Not too Long
Not so Far
We'll clearly see what's been ours all along

If Life ever touches Reason,
Near the threshold,
The New Beginning

What chances have we
In this dancing Stream of Life,
Shower of Bliss,
The Lights still shining High
As this must be
Not too Long
Not so Far
Near the threshold,
The New Beginning
Not too Long
Not so Far

Is it a dancing light, or is it just a relection, a premonition, a distant and as yet still unknown realization. There is something dancing, but it is in shadow, and the shadows dance in rays of light from this source above, and that source is...

A Star...

And it moves drawing closer in the night sky, and illuminates this shadow dance beneath it. And the shadow dance takes form, one form , slowly moving. Perhaps many, like Planets in orbit around the one Sun. Intereacting, intgerweaving, the one central figure in dance, in shadow, falling beneath the Star.

It is pretty much at this exact moment that She Was Born.

OK.

* * * * *

Hard to BE exact in this. Tell the truth.

Now we get to what do you believe as well. I cannot say for you, but I can say for sure that I will tell you what I see.

She Is Born in a magical, wonderful, fiery moment of light, and sound , and wonder. From a womb of endless unknown, to an as yet undefined place of Being.

She has come here now. She is not completely Born yet? What is this endless stretch of silence now? Ahhh, small details occurring.

The nurse holds her to the side. There are two nurses there, helping. She is quiet, and fragile, barely there, thin, and only just arrived. Her heart is still beating gently. She has a string still attached to her.

But she needs to take her first breath, to cry out, something. Even in my ignorance I am very aware of this. And I am praying, with every fibre of my being. I am talking to her, urging her on. Calling Her.

It is still. Everywhere.

I now know what I believe.

I cannot speak for you. I cannot say for everyone else. I know you wait there, in expectation. Still hoping for the simple explanation. So, everything will be all right.

Me too.

I don't want to offend you, or confuse you, or lead you astray, or fill you with with either fear, or false hope. I don't want to tell the truth, for you then to go ahead, and only see and hear a lie.

It is still and quiet. It had been almost deafening a moment ago, with agitation, and presumption, and hard work, and caring, and the concentration of everyone all at once.

Now it is quiet as can be.

Still.

The nurse picks Her up by Her legs and holds her upside down. I have no idea what to do here.

None

She has not taken a breath yet.

Still

Quiet

The nurse raises her hand. She slaps the Childs bottom one time. And again.

I take a breath.

Everyone does.

SHE jumps in the nurses hand. A twitch really. Just a tiny thing.

SHE doesn't cry out, not really. She sort of makes this little baby grunt sound, WITH THE SLIGHTEST LITTLE MAGICAL TWIST, and breathes. As loud as the loudest drum and fanfare as I have ever heard, or can imagine.

And so I choose to reveal something.

I know what I believe. At this very moment I also KNOW the ANSWER.

I believe in every Good Thing. Whatever it is that you think or feel, or wonder, or hope, or dream, or are desperately trying to do... I believe it, if it is good.

And by Good, I mean something very specific here. Something simple, something clear.

I believe in LIFE.

Then it all changes one more time...

The nurse fades away, the darkness has not been subdued yet, but in part. Now there is the slide to Life from the Beginning. A long graceful slide from On High to these lands we will share for a time.

I am in a pool of sorts, and can see the slide above, and someone comes. She slides down sensuously, and slowly. Music vibrations pulsing the motions to life.

Perhaps this is really the beginning now. Perhaps we will begin... again.

At the end of this slide to a beginning, she must break through this membrane that is the last barrier before Life itself begins. It is beautiful in its wonder, but there is an earthy, dirty, messy side to all this. The beginning of Life. The pool catches all the details, I lie at the side of the pool as though I only just arrived myself.

She breaks through. And slides to the edge of the pool, from underneath the waters, from beyond the edges of these senses knwoledge, from the inknown, SHE is now born.

And we stare at each other for a moment, questioning. Neither of us with the slightest clue. You Are Welcome.

(Lyrics) A Star For The Morning

A Star for the morning She was born
Precious never to be changed
Mistakes helped Her as she grew
Interchanging points of view
Never daring settle down
All those clowns around Her

Always living at Her best
Never wanting any more
A priceless gem, a jewel of worth
Long treasured on the Earth
A jewel I lost somewhere in time
Was mine, one of a kind, I'm finding

Then the Clowns.

They arrive from everywhere, quickly moving in, clowning around. They surround the child become a pulsing revolving Dance of Life. They are everywhere moving. They are myriad.

Outrageous and funny clowns move about, tired and weeary, sleepy clowns. Gorgeous pretentious posing clowns, terrifying, ugly, off, odd and strange looking clowns. They are all together in one motion. They move in one circle dance about this child. There is now only this dance and the light. They move in towards the child as they circle around and then back out again.

Slowly, Rythmically Pulsating.

Each time they move out away from the child, she has grown in age, and stature, and also in a wealth of subtle beauties. They dance about her, casting their magic spells. There is one at the head of this dancing throng. A kind compassionate clown leads this dance of incantation.

The light changes and becomes even less clear to my eye. A fog seeps into fill the dance, and covers the scene in shadow. A series of mendicant and pharisee-like religious leader clowns, filled with themselves and their arts, replace or surround or supplant the other original grouping of clowns.

They bear gifts.

Carrying incense burning, they chant, "May The Bessings of Life Be Upon You", as they move slowly, over and over again, in these slow ritual steps.

The child has become a magical, beautiful woman.

A Ballerina. She dances in this strange diffuse light. Now she approaches. I still cannot move, in awe of the moment? From my own New Beginning. I recognize her, and for an all too brief moment, I seem to also recognize where we are. I try to rise to greet her.

Somehow, by some miraculous conception, we are together. Our world is new to us, we will see what may come of it now. This is where we actually, truly, have been made for each other. I realize I am a man in this world. A new man. And she... she shares this all with me from the first moment. A truly wonderful, magical woman.

(Lyrics) A Time And A Place

There's a time and a place I first saw you

Baby it's a good day
I love it here this way
Honey I'll be here all morning if you want to sail away
And baby it's a good day

Maybe there's something I said
Come right to your head
Honey I'll wait here forever in case it comes back again
Yes, and baby that's something

There's a time and a place I first saw you
And I'd go there today if I could

Honey now let's see
This could be your best chance
Now you know where I'll be when the music makes you dance
Woo, honey if you get me, yeah

I could do this all day
I can try this, I could show you

And there's hope in the world
I would show you
But there's somethings you find on your own

For this One Moment it is beautiful and glorious. All the Mystery falls aside, and is replaced by Majesty. The sun and sky, the wind in the trees, the grasses in the fields, the mountains in the distance. The sound of the river as we pass. The look in her eyes as she also takes in what must be now our New Home.

My own feelings swell within. What wonder has set us in this place, brought to Life this incredible breathing existence of shape and sound. And our ability here to share it together. We are both awestruck within our first dawning, our New Beginning together. Seperately, we walk, together we cling to this unknown beauty.

The fog grows darker then. It was only a moment that we had, to grow together, to find each other. To experience the wonder, we almost prayed to Life there in that moment, when we realized the light was already fading. Our New Day was nearly done. Change was coming again. We had only enough time to realize we had each other. You Are Welcome.

(Lyrics) The Marionette's Song

These strings are holding onto me
I'm hanging onto you
You're crying for what I'd love to find myself
This wood's singing and calling
What we're doing here
Blue when we should get crazy
New to this Shower of Bliss
Here we're hanging on so's not to miss
A moment of how wonderful this is

and Now you can't go wrong
If you can say it from your Heart
and Then you sing along
You know it has to come from Heart

Come what may
Couldn't be a better time
Maybe flying by
Sure you're feeling fine
Sleep away
The lights still shining high

These strings are holding onto me...

and Now You can't go wrong
If you just say it from your Heart
and Then you sing along
You know it has to come from Heart

Come what may
Couldn't be a better time
Maybe flying by
Sure you're feeling fine
Sleep away
The lights still shining high

As it grew darker, we saw some shadowed visage in the fog up ahead. We slowly drew closer, now cautiously, perhaps the first apprehension we had felt. A half destroyed cottage lie ahead. It had been burned and battered, in pieces, yet still half stood there in defiance of the dangers that had tried to overcome it. We looked at each other. We understood we now must learn much, and perhaps quickly, some important things here. Instincts pointed to this as something we must understand, and we approached carefully. A soft knocking sound was coming from within the remains of the cottage.

Now it was all half shadow and fog. The light was leaving us to our new discovery, and our questions. We came to the doorway which once was an entry, but now also opened to the heavens, and held no secrets. There in the entry itself a skeleton hung, twisting in the wind. The rope holding it creaked, and the bones banging on the wall and entryway made the knocking sound we heard. A sword lay at the feet of the skeleton, broken.

(Lyrics) The Cloud of Tears (Find The Time)

You can hardly keep from crying
I can't see if you put in front of me
You're sure to find the better time than this
Now there must be a time that Life can give
And you will find the time
You will find the time

So will you ever find an answer
I've heard the question so many times before
You're sure to find the finest time there is
There will never be a better time than this
And you will find the time
You will find the time

Refrain:
You Will Find The Time
Yes you will find the time

I'm thinking this will ease your mind
But I can't see peace from here through a Cloud of Tears
You Will Find The Time
Yes you will find the time
repeat...

And it was then that the storm broke upon us in all it's fury. The lightening and thunder crashing in waves above and around us, the forest itself caught fire in the midst of the storm. The fire burned hot and bright through the surrounding, enveloping darkeness, through the raging storm. Jackals and wolves now cried out from a distance, perhaps with their own fears or furies, and we knew somehow they had our scent, and were coming quickly upon us.

I looked at her. She bent down and picked up the broken sword.

I thought how she has very good instincts in this. And then we ran. We ran together, as one, in search of any shelter we might find. Paradise so quickly lost. We ran ahead as the forest burned around us. The flames lapping at our clothes as we raced just ahead of each danger. Stumbling, falling, helping one another to continue, in search of safety. Fleeing as the Cloud of Tears broke upon as a relentless raging storm.

(Lyrics) Too Bad So Sad

There was a time I could talk to you
Tell you everything on my mind
You were glad to be here then my friend
And somehow it all seems so sad

Once in a while I would turn to you
I'm missing something that you might find
You had a way with words then my friend
I'm looking at it now
Isn't that too bad

I knew I had something here for you
I thought I saw something that shined
You'll never have this chance again my friend
I'm looking at it now
Isn't that too bad

I knew I had something here for you
I thought I saw something that shined
You'll never have this chance again my friend
And somehow the earth seems so glad

There was a time I could talk to you
Tell you everything on my mind
You were glad to be here then my friend

I wouldn't want to tell no lies
I wouldn't want to tell no lies
I'm leaving this that you might Find The Truth
I wouldn't want to tell no lies
I'm leaving this that you might Find The Truth

I have to quit daydreaming. Trying to catch a dam ride. Sitting here by this freeway on-ramp sign. With a guitar case, and a flute unpacked, playing a melody at the side of the road. Have to get to L.A. fast this time. Dam. No car, and no phone. Get a letter says, hurry, we're going to New York to record. Going as fast as I can.

Raining now. Night, cold, windy. The parka is big and warm, but doesn't help much tonight. Still need another ride. If I sleep and try again in the morning, it might be too late, better I press on. Someone will have mercy on me in this rain.

Now it's a sunny day in L.A., and I'm standing in front of the castle gates at the guard shack at A&M records on La Brea. Talking to the guards, they won't let me in. I can't find my friends. I call their co-worker music manager, you know, the guy from Malibu. Remembering that house on the beach. The view of the water from the living room. Lunch at the Pier. What a life.
He says they left. Moved everything, lock, stock and barrel, to New York, doesn't have a number. Dam. Sitting there now, in an out-of-body experience. They are going to record in New York, and I'm here, broke in L.A. It's too late by a few weeks, a few days, an hour or two, a moment, a hair. And I can see myself talking to him on the phone, shrinking, as though I am rising up in a helicopter, looking at myself in isolation, below. ALONE, a lone musician at the gates of a Megalopolis of Art. With friends calling to him from afar, but lost unknown in foreign territory. Trying to reach out. Better find a place, take your time, get some food, go home.

* * * * *

* * * * *

There is one other thing I should mention here. It will be noted many times later. The Marionette had found an old half burnt and destroyed book in the shack, just before trembling, instinctive fears had led them to take flight. This book's remnants still held some interesting sayings as listed here. They were not all intact; much was lost. What remains has been our Light. Who the original audience was for this book, what was the intention, the validity of the document were all questioned, much later. Gabriella, as the Ballerina, only much later discovered what the Marionette had found.

The Title Page had been written in small letters, in many many languages. Later, I will try to list all those that survived. Among them was the English title, which I list here, and then the surviving sayings.

The Premises of One True Master
----------------------------------

  • All that is good and bad can be found in the true without ever touching evil. It is OUR hardness of the heart. Solve that.
  • Be less concerned with uncovering evil, and more concerned with revealing truth, and kindness, and forgiveness. Open up.
  • Be less concerned with revealing truth, and more concerned with Life's Immensity. If Anything Is at All, the Artists and Poets and Musicians are Sacred. more so than any momentous fearsome leaders. Show some Respect.
  • Offer Life a chance to free you within from mental and spiritual chains. Free yourself. You can do it now.
  • It is better to be chained physically, and free within, than never see the moment free within. Best to not allow yourself to be chained at all.
  • Those walking amidst all that is good and bad, in search of Life, walk the True Path. Be True Still.
  • Walk the True Path with Heart, Soul, and Mind open and willing, accepting guidance.
  • One lives moment to moment with desire and necessity, disaster and majesty, birth and death all juxtaposed.
  • Do not live in predisposition and prejudice. Experience your Life to the fullest. Pursue Happiness. Leave it Be.
  • Live simply, then when required, Lead the Way, or help those that can as your gift. There is a secret, but it is unspoken. Do not be afraid.
  • The more you dilute truth, the more likely it will be further diluted, eventually then risking the loss of it's own identity as truth.
  • Some supposed truths have long ago lost their identity. Other Truths are still yet to be revealed.
  • Truths degenerate to Half Truths, and as this occurs, demand further allegiance. Half Truths compete one with another, in false argument.
  • If you must hold to a fabled myth as a personal driving inner flame of belief, then hold to the best, kindest, and most open interpretation of your fabled myth.
  • Holding to the best, kindest, and most open interpretations leads, over time, to real truth, and not further half truths.
  • Much unneeded violence, and other real dangers, hidden within the competing half-truths, are avoided by seeking Real Truth.
  • The Secret Truth Revealed In This Moment, IS Ever Humbled Before You.
